ABOUT
Hi everyone, I’m Polly. I’m 23 years old and the creator of Polly Webb Cakes. I believe that everything should taste as good as it looks, if not better. My cakes are made with high quality ingredients, local (where available), organic flour, free range eggs, Belgian chocolate to name a few. I am always looking for
inspiration for new flavour combinations and rarely stop thinking about what I can do next.
Growing up in Cornwall I had the best childhood, full of coastal and woodland walks, and connecting with
nature. We may be very out of the way down here on the Lizard peninsula but I would argue that it is one
of the most beautiful places in the world and I am extremely lucky to live here. Throughout my school life I wanted to go down many career paths, from vet to painter and decorator, and artist to chef. I started
working in one of the local pubs, The Ship Inn in Porthleven, when I was 14, working my way up from pot washer to second chef over the course of my time there. I then went on to work at Mount Haven Hotel, where my friend Ross was the head chef. I learnt so much about food from working there, working on the stove and the dessert section as well as prepping all day for the ever-changing dishes. The food there was incredible. When the hotel closed for its winter refurbishment I started working a few hours at my uncle’s pasty shop, Gear Farm Pasties.
After a few months I went on to start making cakes for the shop and this is
where all those years of making all kinds of cakes with my Granny really turned into a passion I wanted to pursue. A few orders for celebration cakes started to come through from locals in the shop and that’s when I set up Polly Webb Cakes. Fast forward a few years later, I converted a shipping container into a fully functioning commercial kitchen and I have been full time ever since. Ryan, my partner, was definite happy to have all of my cake stuff out from every corner of the house!
I now supply cafes all across West Cornwall and make bespoke, uniquely designed cakes for all occasions.
